Describe ways in which the landscape is used in religiously significant ways?
The physical landscape impacts how people practice their religion. Pilgrimages are often taken based off of these landscapes. In Christianity, the Christian landscape is dominated by churches. In Muslim landscape, there is a high density of mosques. In Buddhism, a pagoda is an example of the effect of religion on a landscape. An example of the effect of landscape on a religion is Hinduism is closely tied to the physical geography of India. Natural features are considered one of the holiest places in Hinduism. An example is the Ganges River. Pilgrimages are often taken one pilgrimage that is taken is tirtha. Tirtha, is an act of purification. Usually to gain purification one must bath in a holy river. Hindu holy places have a hierarchy, the holiest places attract people from all over India and local temples usually attract locals. Pilgrimages are difficult because the remote location of the holy places. The recent improvement in transportation has made it much easier for pilgrimages to take place.
